RESPONSIBILITY HAS ITS REWARDS

The National Football League, its clubs, concessionaires, brewery partners, and the TEAM Coalition are supporting the designated driver programs at all NFL stadiums during the 2003 season with a special incentive. Every stadium offers fans a designated driver booth or safe ride home program. Fans who register to be a designated driver pledge to not drink alcohol, drive their friends and family home safely, and ensure that everyone always buckles up.

At the end of the season, one designated driver from each stadium will be selected to represent the home team for that stadium. The designated drivers for the season from the teams that compete in the Super Bowl on February 1, 2004 in Houston, TX at Reliant Stadium, will each receive two (2) tickets to the game, roundtrip airfare, and hotel accommodations.

A Pro Bowl trip will also be awarded to one of the designated drivers selected for the season whose team does not play in the Super Bowl. This prize will be awarded after both the AFC and NFC Championship games have been played. The Pro Bowl trip includes two (2) tickets to the game, roundtrip airfare, and hotel accommodations.

Fans who pledge to be a designated driver at NFL stadiums receive an information card that directs them to go to the TEAM Coalition website to register to be their favorite team’s designated driver for the season. The promotion includes TV and radio public service announcements produced by TEAM and distributed in NFL markets. Click here to find out more about the promotion and view the PSAs.

TEAM Joins MLB

at World Series

Alcohol management was a top priority for MLB during the 100th anniversary of the World Series.

MLB Security invited TEAM to help monitor the alcohol management at the three games played in Miami, home of the National League Champion (and eventual World Series Champion) Florida Marlins. During games 3, 4, and 5 of the series, TEAM staff worked with Pro Player Stadium Guest Services staff to support the designated driver program.

TEAM staff also observed Boston Concessions vendors as they checked IDs aggressively, limited service to two beers per purchase, and cut off beer sales after the last out of the 7th inning.

No major, alcohol-related incidents occurred during any of the World Series games.

Winter Board Meeting at MLB

Major League Baseball (MLB) will host the TEAM Board meeting in New York, NY on December 9th.

At a dinner on December 8th before the meeting, Kevin Hallinan, Senior Vice President of Security and Facility Management for Major League Baseball, will be recognized as the in-coming TEAM Chairman, a position he accepted in May but he was not able to attend the Spring Board meeting.

Other agenda items include plans to perform a program evaluation, defining the strategy for growing the membership base, and how to engage state highway safety offices with their local sports teams.

TEAM Responds to Program Evaluation, Plans to Improve

Over the past three years, participants in the TEAM alcohol management training program have provided feedback on the content and quality of the training. Recently, TEAM analyzed that feedback and established a plan to improve the program during Fiscal Year 2004.

Overall, participants found their trainers to be excellent or very good in terms of their industry knowledge, program knowledge, presentation skills, and energy.

TEAM Chairman Interviewed

in CSO Magazine

The October issue of CSO (Chief Security Officer) Magazine interviewed Kevin Hallinan for the monthly debriefing.

One of the questions Kevin answered with a true appreciation of the politics of his job was:

Do you profess allegiance to any particular baseball team?

Kevin’s Answer: “Yes, all 30 of them. You're talking to a guy who loves his job.”

The letter from the editor in the November issue also quotes Kevin while discussing the fight that broke out on the field during Game 3 of the Red Sox v. Yankees ALCS.
