New Video for TEAM Training

The new TEAM training video and teaser are nearly finished, due to the hard work and dedication of Double R Productions.  The teaser is approximately eight minutes long, and includes interviews by Joe Pistone, Kevin Hallinan, Linda Pantell, Carl Mittleman, and Bill Squires.  Footage was also provided by MLB, NFL, NHL, and NBA.  The video begins and closes with the new TEAM brochure cover. This graphic also appears on the TEAM website homepage and displays consistency across the new materials.

The vignettes are recreations of the current scenarios used in training, but are more realistic and better mirror the text descriptions in the training manual.  Also, an additional two scenes have been added based on trainer feedback, allowing trainers to slightly vary their instruction.

The final video should be available in mid-September and distributed to all current TEAM trainers.  Thanks to everyone who contributed in this effort!

Committee News

·          Marketing Committee has been busy with the training video, new PSAs, marketing brochure, and selecting a PR firm.
·          Training Committee selected Randy Mayne of the E Center in Salt Lake City Utah as our newest Master Trainer. The timing is perfect because we are losing Carl Mittleman who will be in Germany with ARAMARK for the next year.
·          Finance Committee is reviewing the 3 year budget. As NHTSA funding decreases, the Coalition must increase its training and membership income.
·          Membership Committee plans to solicit membership from sports leagues and media. In addition, a club level membership is being considered to cover the cost of facility training.

Strat@comm Chosen as PR Firm

TEAM selected Strat@comm to handle its public relations needs. This choice was made after multiple rounds of presentations and idea suggestions made by them and several other PR firms.

Strat@comm’s enthusiasm and traffic safety experience were what put them at the top of the list.

Overseeing our projects at Strat@comm will be Diane Steed, Principal, and Senior Consultants Cathy Gillen and Rebecca Adler.  They will be tasked to increase awareness of TEAM in the eyes of the media both nationally and in the communities in which our participating clubs reside.

Later this month, a one-day session will involve the PR Firm as well as TEAM Board members to jump start our new communication strategy.

Recertification Policy for TEAM Trainers

Since TEAM began its partnership with TIPS, the two-year certification of many TEAM trainers is about to expire. The Training Committee decided to offer a reduced recertification rate to attend upcoming Instructor Development Programs.  This reduced rate of $300 will allow TEAM trainers to gain certification for another two years.  The trainer must participate in a two day IDP session and take the exam again to become recertified.

A recent mass mailing to all TEAM trainers whose certifications are soon to expire has received good feedback.  There are currently eight people registered for the December 2002 IDP at Dodger Stadium, and two registered for the February 2003 IDP at the Atlanta Zoo.  Among the participants at the Dodger Stadium IDP will be TEAM Board members Christy Coonradt, Jennifer Livengood, and Ruth Esteban-Muir.

Website Update

Marketing Brochure

The TEAM staff has been keeping busy keeping the website current and full of useful information.  Recently, member logos, Board of Director bios, and testimonials were added.

As usual, interested individuals can access information on the TEAM training program, as well as download a registration form to sign up for a future IDP.  Check it out at www.teamcoalition.org.

The marketing brochure is now complete, and was sent to the printer in late August.  The final product should be available sometime in mid-September.

NAB, MLB, NFL, NHL, and NBA were all instrumental in providing logos and pictures and testimonials for this project.

The evergreen portion of the brochure contains the history of TEAM, as well as the benefits of alcohol management training, information on IDPs and Fan Education materials, and various quotes from trainers and board members.

The inserts include an IDP registration form, a case study on MLB, training participants, and a press release on the NHTSA Award for Public Service.

Our special thanks to Jennifer Livengood and her writer and designer for creating this wonderful brochure!

New Public Service Announcements

The new TEAM Public Service Announcements will be shot the last week of August.  The themes for these new PSAs will be baseball and football.  The PSAs will combine the visual elements of equipment like bats and gloves for baseball and a helmet and cleats for football with tunes and crowd noises appropriate for each sport. The narrator’s voice will communicate the importance of a sober, designated driver and buckling up for safety.

NFL Update

TEAM is proposing a plan to the NFL that would achieve 100% club involvement over the next several seasons. This proposed plan would involve participation by the nation’s brewers in a similar fashion to what was done for Major League Baseball. We are confident that the NFL is committed to incorporating the TEAM program into the operations of all of its clubs.
