Washington, DC (December 19, 2003) – Dexter King, Executive Director
for the International Association of Assembly Managers (IAAM), was
announced as Secretary of TEAM Coalition, Inc during the organization’s
board meeting on December 9th.
TEAM (Techniques for Effective Alcohol Management) Coalition is an
alliance of professional sports, entertainment facilities,
concessionaires, the beer industry, broadcasters, governmental traffic
safety experts, and others working together to promote responsible
drinking and positive fan behavior at sports facilities.
Joining King as the IAAM representatives to the Board are Kevin Bruder,
General Manager for the E Center in Utah, and Debbie Kling, General
Manager for the Bank of America Centre in Idaho.
In making the announcement, TEAM Executive Director Jill Pepper said,
“Since TEAM began in 1985, IAAM has played an active role in directing
the organization and encouraging their members to utilize the alcohol
management training program. IAAM is an important partner in our
success to date and efforts in the future to reach more sports
facilities and fans with our message of responsibility and safety.
And I know that Dexter King will continue that high level of participation
from IAAM.”
The TEAM Coalition received the 2003 National Commission Against Drunk
Driving (NCADD) Award for Education and Prevention for its three pronged
approach to prevent drunk driving. TEAM encourages sports facilities to
establish and enforce alcohol service policies, TEAM provides a training
program that educates facility employees about how to identify and
interact with patrons who may have over-consumed, and TEAM promotes
personal responsibility and the designated driver program to fans.
Dexter King, CFE (Certified Facility Executive), has served as the
executive director of IAAM since 2001. As a past president of IAAM
and a 33-year veteran of the sports and entertainment industry, Mr.
King has experienced management at all levels and in all types of
public venues. He served as the regional general manager of SMG of
Alaska, overseeing five public venues in the Alaska region. He has
also held the position of executive director of the Boise (Idaho)
State University Pavilion and executive director for five public
venues at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma. As a leader
in the Association, he was instrumental in the founding of the Public
Assembly Management School at Oglebay, the Arena Management Conference,
the Leadership Institute, and the University Venue Management
Conference along with the development of the core competencies Body
of Knowledge Text Book. In 1997, King was recognized with the highest
industry honor as a recipient of the prestigious Charles A. McElravy
Award for outstanding contribution to the profession.
In addition to IAAM, TEAM members include Major League Baseball,
National Football League, National Basketball Association, National
Hockey League, Beer Institute representing Anheuser-Busch, Miller
Brewing Company, and Coors Brewing Company, ARAMARK, the National
Association of Broadcasters, and NHTSA.
