As the 2007 World Series® Champions look to repeat, Red Sox fans have many reasons to celebrate. On April 30th the Red Sox, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Executive Office of Safety and Security, ARAMARK, Anheuser-Busch, and TEAM Coalition partnered to educate Red Sox fans about the importance of designating a driver, buckling up, and demonstrating positive fan behavior. And the spokespeople for this important message were the Red Sox fans themselves. Hundreds of Red Sox fans filmed more than 70 responsibility videos.

NATIONAL CAMPAIGN: Responsibility Has Its Rewards

RHIR PARTNERS INCLUDE:

  • Boston Red Sox
  • the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Executive Office of Safety and Security
  • ARAMARK
  • Anheuser-Busch
  • TEAM Coalition (Techniques for Effective Alcohol Management)
For four consecutive seasons, TEAM Coalition and Major League Baseball have supported the designated driver programs at all MLB stadiums with a special incentive as part of the Responsibility Has Its Rewards sweepstakes for designated drivers. Every stadium offers fans a designated driver program. Fans who register to be a designated driver pledge to stay sober, drive their friends and family home safely, and ensure that everyone always buckles up.

At the end of the season, one designated driver from each Club will be selected as the designated driver for the season. The designated drivers for the season from the Clubs that compete in the World Series® will each receive two (2) tickets to the first game played at their favorite Club’s home stadium.

A second prize will also be awarded to one of the designated drivers for the season whose favorite Club does not play in the World Series®. That lucky designated driver will win a trip to the 2009 MLB All-Star Game® at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, MO including two (2) tickets to the game, roundtrip airfare, and hotel accommodations (if necessary). This prize will be awarded after both the American League and National League Pennant Winners have been determined.

The videos that Red Sox fans filmed on April 30, 2008 will be used to produce Public Service Announcements to support the Responsibility Has Its Rewards sweepstakes. The final PSAs will be offered to local broadcasters and air online as well as on the stadium videoboard throughout the remainder of the 2008 season.

US DOT / NHTSA 2007 NATIONAL DATA:
  • In 2007, 12,998 people were killed as a result of alcohol-related (BAC > 0.08) car crashes, a decline of 3.7% from the 13,491 fatalities in 2006
  • Many, if not most of those lives would have been saved if people did not drive when they were impaired by alcohol or if they used sober, designated drivers or if they simply wore their seat belts.
  • Statistics and research clearly show that 21-34 year old males are the demographic most likely to be involved in an automobile crash, drive when impaired by alcohol, and fail to buckle up.
